NOORIN GHAFOORI

Your Voice. Your Vote. Your Future.
Vote Noorin Ghafoori for Student Body President!
MJC is more than just a college, it's a community where we grow, overcome obstacles, and discover who we want to become.
-
As a STEM major, I’ve felt the pressure of balancing intense classes, jobs, and personal responsibilities while still trying to stay involved and focused on my goals.
-
As a Senator and student leader, I’ve listened to student concerns, pushed for better resources, and worked to create a more welcoming, supportive environment on campus.
-
And as an immigrant student, I understand what it means to start over, to face barriers and to rise above them with hard work and heart.
If I’m elected Student Body President, I’ll continue to fight for every student to feel seen, heard, and supported no matter their story. Because at MJC, your voice matters. And together, we can build a campus where everyone has the chance to thrive.
"At MJC, we welcome all. We serve all." 💙

MEET NOORIN
I’m running for MJC Student Body President because I believe in the power of community, opportunity, and student leadership. My time at MJC has been about more than just academics, it has been a journey of growth, resilience, and learning in ways I never expected. I’m a Computer Science major, planning to transfer to a UC to pursue a career in cybersecurity.
Being at MJC has given me the chance to explore new hobbies and interests, like playing golf, and taking different classes that have helped me grow beyond the classroom. But my experience here hasn’t always been easy. Like many students, I’ve faced tough challenges from balancing school and work to experiencing personal loss. These moments have shaped me into someone who understands what it means to struggle, adapt, and keep pushing forward.
Through it all, I’ve learned that MJC isn’t just a college it’s a place where students find support, opportunity, and community. That’s why I’m running to make sure students are informed, involved, and truly heard. I’m ready to speak up and make sure students are included where it matters most.

MY PRIORITIES FOR MJC
For Everyone
-
Cultural & Club Center – We need a space where students, clubs, and staff can meet, connect, build friendships, and celebrate diversity together.
-
Meal Plans – Affordable food options on campus mean students and families don’t have to skip meals or leave school to eat.
-
Outdoor Study Spaces – Create shaded, wifi equipped outdoor areas where students can study, relax, and connect with nature between classes.
For Student Parents:
-
Childcare Support – Advocate for childcare with flexible hours, including nights on both campuses to support student parents.
-
Flexible Class Options – Push for more online and evening classes to fit busy schedules.
-
Family and Friendly Spaces – Create study areas where parents can do schoolwork while their kids have a safe space.
For the Students
-
Career Fairs & Job Help – Bringing employers and job resources directly to campus gives students and community members real chances to build a future.
-
Safety Walk Service – Offer a nighttime safety walk program to help students feel secure getting to their cars or classes after dark.
-
Language Support – Students should have access to college forms, resources, and support services in their own language so nothing gets lost in translation.
For Housing Support
-
On & Off-Campus Housing – Push for more student housing options so no one has to stress about where they’ll sleep.
-
Emergency Housing Help – Partner with local shelters and programs to support students in crisis.
-
Rent Assistance – Fight for rent help and grants so students don’t have to choose between school and a place to live.
My Involvement at MJC
Since my first semester at MJC, I’ve been dedicated to helping students, creating opportunities, and making campus a more inclusive and supportive place. Through leadership, organizing events, and working directly with students, I’ve focused on ensuring that everyone has access to the resources they need to succeed. Here’s how I’ve been involved:

Refugee Resettlement and Student Support
Through a collaboration with World Relief, I’ve helped newly arrived refugee students register for classes, navigate campus, and adjust to life at MJC. Seeing their struggles firsthand made me realize the importance of making our campus more welcoming and accessible for all students, no matter their background.

Volunteering and Student Advocacy
I’ve spent countless hours volunteering at events, assisting with student programs, and serving on the MJC Curriculum Committee to make sure student voices are included in important decisions. These experiences have taught me the power of advocacy and how important it is for students to have a say in shaping their education.

CAMPUS LIFE AND STUDENT LEARNING
Working in Campus Life has been an amazing experience. I’ve had the chance to help students, answer questions, and guide them through campus life, whether it’s getting their ID, finding classes, or accessing resources. Along the way, I’ve made great friends and seen how small acts of support can make a big difference. Helping others has given me a deeper commitment to making MJC a welcoming and supportive place for everyone.
STUDENT GOVERNMENT
Serving as an ASMJC Senator has prepared me to lead. I’ve worked closely with students, clubs, and campus leaders to advocate for real change. From planning events that build community to attending meetings with faculty and staff, I’ve learned how to listen, speak up, and take action. One of my proudest moments was organizing the Middle Eastern Celebration (Eid Mubarak) event, which gave students a space to connect, share culture, and feel a sense of belonging.

Basic Needs Support (Pirates’ Pantry)
One of the most impactful roles I’ve had at MJC has been working with Pirates’ Pantry, helping students who struggle with food insecurity. Through this experience, I’ve become even more passionate about making sure that students don’t have to choose between getting an education and meeting their basic needs.
